Devlog #6
I think the project is moving along well overall. Progress is moving steadily along, and content is getting added to the game. Our team has the communication necessary to work effectively, and there are no team conflicts. The team is working smoothly together, and the team meetings are really efficient, which I appreciate.
My main role is Sound Design, and if needed I help with programming. Since the programming has been going well, its been mostly Sound design. Sound design includes both SFX and music, and its part of my job to figure out what sounds are needed and to give them to the team to impliment.
Sound design is going well. I had some unexpected trouble working with VSTis and MIDIs, but sorted it out, and the music is coming along nicely now. I've already added some UI click sound effects and a string for when a character finds a match with an NPC, and I'm working on other UI sounds already. for some of the sounds, I'm recording foley and modifying within Reaper. This should give us some good unique sound effects to work with.
The sound list hasn't changed since I first made it, and I'm okay with that. It doesn't feel quite right since it feels like I'm not making progress there, but I think its okay since I simply don't need other sounds yet. I've found its difficult to know what sounds are needed without actually playing the game in its completion, or without the full game being developed. For now, I'm going to stick to simple UI sounds and continue to compose the music.
Since I have not really done any sound design to this scale before, this is an interesting challenge for me. Learning how sound design works on the fly is a unique experience, and I look forward to ways that I can be creative and work with my team more. Overall, things are going well. Sound design is really interesting, and I have always enjoyed composing music.
